熱煙流——2019珠三角藝術單位觀察展 澳門站

我們希望對珠三角這片鮮活而飽含矛盾性的土地上的藝術保持持續的觀察。在展覽機制上,以「珠三角藝術單位觀察」的名義形成每三年一次的序列展;而觀察的方式則是深入到其錯綜複雜的各種組織中去,如群落、小組、團體、機構等。實際上,在過去的策展與研究中,我們已經對群落、機構有過介入,往後更是希望以有效的方式堅持與本土藝術力量的互動和激蕩。在2016年的展覽中,我們選取了9個根植於珠三角的各類團體式藝術組合,其觀察的角度主要是從單位組織的結構以及與社會互動的方式來進行的,主題「場域的毛細管」指的是它們像毛細管一樣在這個場域中發揮著意想不到的作用。

三年過去,第二屆「珠三角藝術單位觀察展」以「熱煙流」為題集結起珠三角9個藝術家團體,試圖從這個區域特殊的環境現象所引發的族群和行為方式思考及想象來切入。從被視作混合了濕熱氣候和瘟疫的煙瘴之地的「煙」,到虎門銷煙中的所謂蠻煙的「煙」,再到當下複雜的社會和城鄉景觀之中的各種「煙」,諸種曖昧不清的「煙霧」與炎熱氣候、茂密植被等自然與非自然的形態,被裹挾進這個區域的現代性進程,演化出某種極具傳染性的力量和特殊的地域屬性。

「熱煙流」既與這個區域的氣候和地理表徵有關,也隱喻全球與本土互動框架下社會、思想和文化等方面的流向。而所選擇的團體或個體正是以自身的研究和創作實踐介入到這種流向之中,並且通過堅守與自我反思的律動而保持著處於行進之中的流動。我們正是力求從地理、氣候以及與之相關的人的行為方式與景觀塑造的角度來尋找這個區域當下藝術行動的隱在線索。

It is our aim to examine the Pearl River Delta's meteoric progress of urbanization and its cultural phenomena developed in a considerable dualism. In this prospect, the occurring “Pearl River Delta Arts Retrospective” is introduced as a triennial to feature in-depth reviews of the region; by scrutinizing each organization working in this conurbation, in the varied forms of creative communities, collectives and institutions. With these concerning entities, in our previous collaborative projects, we have since established a strong connection in hope to stimulate the unorthodox ecology and practices in the arts. In 2016 we have presented 9 practitioner groups distinctive to the PRD, looking at how such formations have shaped the cultural landscape in the region and its relevance for today’s socio-political context. Therefore, in our last exhibition the core subject of “Capillaries of the Field” have resulted as an intricate network throughout the area, in the advocacy of a thriving creative industry.

Three years have passed, the second edition of the “PRD Arts Retrospective” has proposed “How Flows” as a working title, and appointed 9 artist groups to exhibit their trajectory of integration as a community-oriented model in the Pearl River Delta. The concept draws on colonial preoccupations with the plume of “smoke” as sources of likely contagion in the effect of temperature and moisture, the burning ‘smoke’ rising from opium destruction at Humen, and the noxious veil of “smog” enveloping the complexity of our urban-rural divide; such environmental commonality functions as powerful means to communicate messages on localism as an urban phenomena.

Hence the very idea of “Hot Flows” underlines the context of globalization and urbanization associated with the geography of the region, which engenders social development and cultural cooperation of the delta’s strategic cluster. For this reason, the chosen representatives will survey the evolution of curatorial strategies and artistic creations, by conceding into the cultural confluences in this zone. As we examine the interconnections within the region, the identity of our project evaluates the entanglement of geography, prevailing attitudes and correlative social activities, of all catering to the ever-evolving art scene across the region.

EXiM 2017-兩岸四地實驗動畫活動 Cross-Straits Experimental Animation Festival


自從2007年開始,牛房倉庫藝術空間決定將推廣實驗影像和錄像藝術列入年度計劃,至今已有10年的時間了,而於2011年定名為EXiM,以更確定的態度在澳門持續進行實驗影像的推廣和與亞洲其他相關活動構成一種聯結關係以作長期交流和相互觀摩。
今年EXiM再次邀請中國大陸、香港、台灣和澳門本地作品同場交流,兩岸四地雖同屬中華文化,但四個地區因歷史的背景和發展而衍生出各自不同的社會意識形態。今天,也看到四地各自面對著不同的社會議題。無論歷史脈絡和當下的社會景況都必然會以不同形式啓發或影響藝術創作。這次放映活動不僅可以觀瞻藝術家精彩的影像創作外,在某種程度上也可藉著作品對各地現今的社會狀況一探究竟,也可嘗試去細看和體會四地作品的相似和差異。而EXiM 2017擬定動畫類型為策展方向,有見近年電子數碼設備和軟件的普及,越來越多的動畫創作湧現,當中不乏有優秀的實驗作品,正如中國大陸策展人曹愷在其策展論述所提及:「就像一座高速運轉的實驗室」;而策展人石昌杰講述台灣動畫創作狀況時:「無論從量或質的方面來看,都有著令人驚艷的表現!」,這也是為何今屆EXiM放映活動專注動畫創作。
感謝曹愷、文晶瑩和石昌杰三位策展人再一次為EXiM策展放映節目,他們都是當代藝術和實驗影像範疇的重量級人物,參與推廣策劃和教學之時,又持續進行藝術創作。曹愷,除了主理多個影像的學術研究外,還是歷屆「中國獨立影像」年度展的靈魂人物。而文晶瑩其藝術成就多年來在香港或國際都被受認可,更以獨立策展人身分推廣香港實驗影像創作。石昌杰作為台灣獨立動畫創作先鋒,持續和積極投身在台灣的動畫教育和推廣,甚至以影像去書寫台灣的動畫發展。他們三位為今年活動揀選34齣作品,連同澳門4齣作品,成就了EXiM 2017--兩岸四地實驗動畫活動。
EXiM 2017已是第七屆了,不知是否因「七年之癢」的魔咒,本藝團迎來一個令人非常沮喪的消息,就是於2017年9月30日要撤離牛房倉庫,意味著我們往後需另覓場地舉辦活動。由於撤離至今,我們還未能找到合適而租金相宜的固定空間,因此,今年EXiM以借場的形式移師到澳門藝術博物館演講廳舉辦。

It has been a decade since 2007 when Ox Warehouse art space decided to include the promotion of experimental moving image and video art in its annual programming. In 2011, with the official launch of EXiM, Ox Warehouse continued to further promote these fields, besides other related exchange activities to foster collective reflection and exchange on a long term basis.
This year, EXiM once again invites artists from the four regions across the strait (China, HK, Taiwan and Macao) to showcase their works and for exchange. These four Chinese regions have their own historical backgrounds, development levels and different social ideologies, which certainly inspire or influence artistic creation in different ways in each region. This screening offers a chance not only to view wonderful cinematic creations but also, to some extent, to have a glimpse of the respective social conditions through the featured works, while trying to appraise and understand similarities and differences among the different productions from the four regions.
Considering that a wider availability of electronic and digital devices and software has spawned ever more animation productions in recent years – and a few excellent experimental works – EXiM 2017 has chosen animation as its main theme. Chinese mainland curator Cao Kai says that today’s animation “is like a hectic laboratory” and when depicting Taiwan’s case, curator Shih Chang Jay says animation productions “are very impressive both in quality and quantity", which might explain why this edition of EXiM focuses on screening animations.
I’m grateful to the three curators, Cao Kai, Phoebe Man and Shih Chang Jay for once again curating the screening of EXiM programmes. All the three are very seasoned in the fields of contemporary art and experimental cinema, and besides involving themselves in the promotion and curating of events they still find time to teach and persist in artistic creation. Cao Kai, apart from being in charge of academic research, has been also the driving force of the previous editions of the China Independent Film Festival (CIFF).
Over the years, Phoebe Man’s artistic achievements have been recognized both in Hong Kong and internationally, and as an independent curator she also promotes experimental film creation in Hong Kong.
Shih Chang Jay, as a pioneer creative of Taiwan's independent animation, has been actively dedicated to relevant education and promotion in the island, even using video to record Taiwan's animation development.
In addition to the four works from Macao, the three curators have selected 34 works for this edition, which constitute the EXiM 2017 – Cross-Strait Experimental Animation Festival.
This year marks EXiM’s 7th edition. We are not sure whether it’s related to “the curse of the seven year itch”, but Ox Warehouse had to move out of its old premises on September 30, and has been looking since then for an alternative venue. So far we haven’t found any proper space with a reasonable rental, and therefore this year EXiM will be held at the Auditorium of the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), sponsored by Macao Foundation.

實驗動態影像(Experimental Moving Images)相關的展覽和講場已成為牛房倉庫藝術空間每年固定舉辦的活動。而2011年更將之定名為EXiM (Experimental Moving Images in Macao),以推動實驗影像為主的藝術活動。EXiM 2016將會邀請葡萄牙和本澳錄像藝術和實驗影像同場交流,希望通過這次活動,除了可以欣賞到兩地的影像作品外,通過作品也能夠探究兩地文化之間的相互作用。

徵集澳門實驗錄像作品參與展出
EXiM 2016將會策劃兩場澳門實驗錄像作品放映活動,現向本地創作人徵集實驗錄像作品,有興趣申請參與這次放映活動的本澳創作人,請查閱以下有關申請參展和提交參展作品的條文,並於本年九月三十日前提交參展作品影片、作品和創作人的資料(參展申請表格),所有申請參展的作品將由EXiM 2016策展人進行揀選並決定最終的展覽放映名單。
1. 申請參展資格:
1.1. 申請參展者必須為澳門居民或工作於澳門之人士;
1.2. 所提交的影片必須在2010年1月後創作;
1.3. 影片長度以30分鐘為限;
1.4. 申請者應對作品擁有所有的版權,並簽署本表格以保證作品為原作。任何違反有關法律條款的申請者將被取消參展資格。
2. 提交作品影片、作品和創作者的資料:
2.1. 作品影片接受AVI、MOV與MPEG格式檔;
2.2. 作品影片、作品和創作者的資料可以電郵(請確保作品能被下載)、郵寄或親身遞交至牛房倉庫。
2.3. 每位申請者最多可提交兩件作品。

3. 申請截止日期:

4.2 由於實驗錄像和錄像藝術作品是一種自主性的藝術,因此沒有特定的評審準則、規範及作品的主題或形式,所有屬實驗和藝術範疇的作品均會獲考慮,但不包括含攻擊、挑釁性訊息或內容的作品。
4.3 結果將於2016年10月20-30日期間通知;
4.4 策展人之決定為最終決定。
5. 被揀選參展的作品:
5.1 被揀選參展的作品會用於研究工作和本活動相關的非商業性質放映。
5.2 創作人同意主辦機構利用其部份作品(最長30秒)作EXiM 2017的宣傳用途。

「設置影院」—— 16mm多重投映表演




韓國藝術家李幸俊(Hangjun Lee)親臨澳門以四部16mm放映機進行一場多重投影的表演。除了能觀看到16mm膠卷的作品之外,最重要是感受李幸俊以多重投影的拼貼和即興的現場演繹所呈現出一種擴延電影的精神。眼睛不再只是集中在單螢幕的和恒速的播放模式,而是遊走在那些重疊的、移動的和變速的眾多影像當中。作品會因每一個現場環境而有不同的變化,從而產生出一種虛擬影像和實體空間的交錯對話。今次演出同時也結合了韓淇留(Hankil Ryu)和金泰瀛(Kim Tae Young)兩位的音樂和聲音,讓我們經驗一次光影聲音的拆解和重構的實驗創作。

在一個普遍使用數碼制式拍攝、製作和播放的時代,膠卷(或稱菲林)這種媒材似乎離我們很遠很遠,甚至有人認為它應該送進歷史博物館作為上一代的東西去懷念。可以肯定的是,有部分現今的年青人應該從沒有看過16mm膠卷的影像作品。但另一確定的是,現在依然有很多影像創作人堅持運用這種有質感的媒材,他們當中很多不僅只是抱有一種純粹的偏好或守舊的心態,而是意圖為影像創作尋找更多的可能性。處於一個膠卷和數碼共存的時空,無疑地更能讓我們深思影像最終的意義是什麼?

Hangjun Lee, Korean artist, comes to Macao giving a performance of multi-projection with four 16mm film projectors. Except for watching 16mm films, feeling an essence of expanded cinema conveyed by Hangjun’s improvisatory live performance with multi-projection collage will be the most significant part. Our eyes are no longer focusing on the mode of single screen and constant playback rate. Instead, we are looking around several overlapping, moving and inconstant projections. The performing work will change depending on each site environment, thus an interlaced dialogue is established between virtual images and real space. Simultaneously, the performance includes also music and sounds composed by Hankil Ryu and Kim Tae Young at this time, which allows us experiencing an experimental creation of deconstruction and reconstruction about light and sounds.

In an era of using digital format generally for images shooting, making and broadcasting, film seems to be a material which is very far away from us. Some people even think it should be put into history museum as a memorial from previous generation. One thing can be sure that today lots of youths should never seen any pieces of work with 16mm film format. However, another ascertainable fact is that there are a great number of artists and film makers having still insisted to use this textured medium. Many of them do not only have a pure preference or keep a conservative mindset about it, but also intent to find more possibilities for the moving image creation. We are in an age of the coexistence of film and digital imaging, hence, undoubtedly, it makes us pondering the ultimate meaning of image should be.
