Cross-Boundary – Macao-Meets-Taiwan: Artistic Exchange Exhibition

Cross-Boundary – Macao-Meets-Taiwan: Artistic Exchange Exhibition

Ox Warehouse will inaugurate Cross-Boundary – Macao-Meets-Taiwan: Artistic Exchange Exhibition4pm December 14, Saturday. The inaugurationwill be enlivened byPerformance art shows.
The Age of Discoveryin the 1500’sbrought togetherTaiwan and Macau and made both known to the West. Since thenthey have been assimilating alien cultures over different periods, but only in the late 20th century the two territoriesstood firmly on the world stage. Now in the21th century, artists face more complex environments and artistic languages can’t be viewedas unidimensional. Also, special fields are no longer defined by its creative media, as cross-media and cross-boundary creativity and relatedstudies flourish, becoming the trend. The vast array of techniques, formats and themes constitutes quite a challenge for artistic creation! In this context, how do artistsperceive and realize the‘cross-boundary’concept?

To answer, this exhibition takes on a special format, inviting two curatorswho are artists themselves in different media, one from Macau and the other from Taiwan, to explore this topic together. They will try to showcase, in a familiar or unfamiliar approach, experiences of their march from the past into the trend expressed by Taiwan and Macau artists.

Organised by the Ox Warehouse Art Space, sponsored by IACM, the Cultural Affairs Bureau and Macau Foundation, the exhibition will run at ground floor exhibition hall, Ox Warehouse (Address: No Cruzamentoentro a Avenida Do coronel Mesquita e a Avenida Almirante Lacerda Macau), from December15, 2013to January 31, 2014 (12:00 -19:00; closed on Tuesdays). Art aficionados and interested citizens are most welcome to visit. Admission is free.

Leong Mou Kit Artist-in-Residence Programme- Organ-ic

We are what we eat。

Leong Mou Kit Artist-in-Residence Programme- Organ-ic

With the ongoing hectic pace of life and enormous stress loads from work, people have eventually accustomed to a restless life style. Whether at work or leisure, people are constantly used to be bombarded with never ending text messages and to be networked to social media as if they cannot live without. For the sake of convenience, dining out and consuming processed food are easy alternatives and have become part of our daily life. Like any other consumer goods, processed food is mass-produced with lots of additives and chemicals. Gradually people lost connection with their food source, not knowing how they are grown and made. We are what we eat.

Yet most people easily neglect the essential relationship between our body and nature. When our body does not get the nutrients it needs from nature, it becomes weak and out of balance. The artist tries to bring the awareness of association between food, health, and the environment through different media and art forms.

About the Artist
Kitty Leung was born in Macau and has been living in Canada since 1995. Leung received a Master of Fine Arts from York University of Toronto in 2001. She is an interdisciplinary artist working in print media, installation, video and photo-based projects. Her work explores the ideas of space, memory, narrative, and the relationship between man and nature. She currently teaches at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Canada.

A Sharing: Unconventional Marketing–The Business Concept Behind The Success of Kim Kim Gallery
Time: 15:00, December 15, 2013
Language: English ( Cantonese interpretation )

Gregory Maass and Nayoungim are artists, one from Germany, the other Korea. In 2009, they participated in the ‘Artist-in-Residence’ programme organised by Ox Warehouse, thereby hosting their exhibition entitled “You got to be like water” and a workshop that impressed local audiences.

This time the duo returns to Macao to give a talk. They will, apart from introducing their recent works, share with us their experiences in co-managing the Kim Kim Gallery, a collaborative project started in 2008. This not-for-profit gallery has pursued an innovative and unconventional marketing approach different from more ordinary galleries, in that Gregory Maass and Nayoungim would, based on the artwork’s characteristics, combine curating, exhibition design and editing, to operate their own gallery. This unique approach has proved successful, with the gallery receiving wide acclaim in both local and international circuits.

How to accomplish a guided appreciation session?
