Children's Art Playground 2013 -- "We
were born this way" : Exhibition of Works Jointly Created by Adults and
Children
We were born to paint or do handstands, but
when we’ve grown up we become clueless about it. We are shaped by society into
some ideal person we’re supposed to be in order to make a living. Then, in the
end we lose our identity and blindly follow the herd – we’re not happy simply
because we just follow daily routines we’re not passionate about!
Though we may look physically similar, we’re
not identical inwards, each with a different personality: tough, coward,
domineering, insecure, decisive, indecisive, hot-tempered, apathetic, fickle,
sentimental, and dreamy. We just want to do what interest us and be true to
ourselves.
This year, Ox Warehouse organizes a
children’s exhibition themed on ‘We Were Born This Way’, inviting Taiwanese
circus artist and dancer Ming Cheng
Huang, aka
‘Mr. Candle’, to present his work and perform. Three years ago, he ‘traveled
across Taiwan taking photographs of himself doing handstands’, exposing himself
to the land and people as a street performer to explore basic human issues through
pictures of himself doing handstands in various spots across the island.
Five local young artists, including Sandy
Leong, Chi Wai Un, Summer Ieong Kun Ieng, Molly Cheang, and Van Pou Lon, have
also been invited to present their paintings, diaries, symbols, and devices
recording their moods and personalities. What’s more, the exhibition will
feature works created by children under the guidance of teachers Veronique
Wong, Dora Louand Lam utngo. These kids are not
sophisticated or pretentious, thus showing relatively more possibilities in
creation. Everyone is unique and malleable, since no two people, not even twins , were born identical!
