敖樹克熱愛文學和藝術。寫作與繪畫於他而言，同樣是一種表達外在觀察及内心感受的手段, 他説：《繪畫素描和寫作，除了是内、外雙向的創作形式，也是一種遊歷城市的方法。》
敖樹克的素描作品，呈現一種極細膩和獨特的觀察視角，不但讓你看到香港樓宇的繁華密集，同時看到綠蔭悠然、細葉青青的反城市空間，如小後巷、舊房子和老牆壁等風景，也讓你從人們的外在生活環境，甚至房間或工作室的擺設，透視觀察者和被觀察者的内心世界 ：《我從不臨摹照片，反倒喜歡在現場，描繪我作畫時候所能看到的和感受到的東西。我喜歡繪畫人們的書架和居處，尤其是他們的牆壁。繪畫人們内心的最好方法，就是繪畫他們家裏的物件和牆壁。房間内和牆壁上的小擺設，往往能夠反映人們的個性。繪畫素描是一種冥想。我享受繪畫。我喜歡坐下來，觀察呈現眼前的人和事物，然後拿起筆，讓畫自成。》
Interior Landscapes － Gérard Henry’s Drawings and Texts
Living in Hong Kong since 1981, Gerard Henry is a writer who also practices drawing and sketching. His drawings, previously exhibited in Hong Kong in 2009, capture back alleys, old walls, old houses and scenery at the fringes of the city. He likes to do portraits of people not by drawing the person itself but by drawing their interior, their objects and walls which reflect their occupations and personality. Drawing and writing is for him two complementary ways of strolling in the City.
